Art in the Afternoon - Shells in the Afternoon
Sailors' Valentines & Seaside Treasures
Spend a gentle afternoon surrounded by the simple beauty of shells, sea glass, and treasures gathered from the shore.
Inspired by the centuries-old tradition of Sailors' Valentines, we'll transform seaside finds into heartfelt keepsakes. You may choose to create a simple shell frame, decorate a keepsake box, or design a traditional Sailors' Valentine or shell mosaic-each one as unique as its maker.
Each shell carries its own story, shaped by the tides and polished by time. As you sort, arrange, and create, you'll craft something that reflects your own memories of the sea. No two pieces will ever be alike. There are no patterns to follow or cookie-cutter designs; only your imagination, the beauty of nature, and the joy of making something by hand.
Together, we'll draw inspiration from the intricate shellwork of the Victorian era and the timeless Sailors' Valentines of Barbados, celebrating a rich tradition of transforming nature's treasures into lasting works of art while creating something entirely your own.
Whether you're remembering childhood days spent combing the shoreline, collecting pockets full of shells, or simply longing for the quiet rhythm of the ocean, this workshop offers a peaceful afternoon of creativity, conversation, and discovery.
Come create a timeless seaside treasure to display in your home or share as a thoughtful gift.
No experience is needed. All materials are provided, but you're welcome to bring a few favorite shells from your own beach walks to make your piece even more personal.
