David Hoch is a graduate of Fishers Island High School, where his father, Dr. Ralph Hoch, was the island doctor for over 20 years. He is a Navy veteran and has BA degrees in English from the University of Delaware, in Photography from Brooks Institute in Santa Barbara, CA, and a Masters in English from Rhode Island College. After working in journalism and photography for various publications, he began his career in teaching at Johnson & Wales College in Rhode Island. He recently retired after 20 years as an English professor at New England Institute of Technology in Rhode Island, where he taught various writing and film classes. He is also the author of the novel, Islands- Murder on Fishers Island (written as a master’s thesis), which was self-published and sold on the island during the 80s and 90s.
