Classic Movie Nights
Friday Night Movies are held upstairs in the Large Conference Room.
Gather with movie buffs, enjoy insights from a former professor, and settle in for a great movie.
During the summer season, we enjoy the wonderful Movie Theater on the Parade Grounds. Throughout the rest of the year, David Hoch (a retired professor who has taught multiple film courses), hosts Friday night movie screenings with a brief introduction and insights into each classic, well-loved film before the showing.
Movies start at 6:00pm, and basic concessions are available, including popcorn, water, and soda. Movie and concession prices are by donation.

Friday, Sept. 4- On the Beach (1959)- apocalyptic drama, 134 min.
Gregory Peck, Ava Gardner, Fred Astaire, Anthony Perkins. From Nevil Shute book. A group of people await the aftermath on Australia after a nuclear war has destroyed most of the rest of the earth. Produced and directed by Stanley Kramer.
Friday, Sept. 11- Gosford Park (2001)- satirical comedy/mystery. Rated R. 137 min.
Helen Mirren, Clive Owen, Maggie Smith, Ryan Phillippe, Kristin Scott Thomas. Directed by Robert Altman. A murder occurs following a wealthy dinner, and the investigation is from both the servants' and guests' perspective. Large ensemble cast.
Friday, Sept. 18- The Lion in Winter (1968)- historical drama. 134 min.
Peter O'Toole, Katherine Hepburn (Oscar), Timothy Dalton, Anthony Hopkins. In 1183, Henry II of England attempts to establish a line of succession. His efforts unleash both political and personal turmoil involving his estranged wife and 3 surviving sons.
Friday, Sept. 25- The Ghost and the Darkness (1996)- historical adventure. Rated R. 110 min.
Michael Douglas, Val Kilmer, Tom Wilkinson, Emily Mortimer. Written by William Goldman, this is a true account of two lions that terrorized workers around Tsavo, Kenya, during the building of a railroad in 1898.
Friday, Oct. 2- North to Alaska (1960)- comedy/western. 122 min. D: Henry Hathaway.
John Wayne, Stewart Granger, Capucine, Ernie Kovacs, Fabian. Hit title song! After striking it rich in Alaska, one partner journeys to Seattle for supplies and to retrieve another partner's fiancé. She's already married, so he substitutes another and chaos ensues.
Friday, Oct. 9- The Verdict (1982)- legal drama, 129 min. Rated R.
Paul Newman, Charlotte Rampling, James Mason, Jack Warden, Milo O'Shea. Written by David Mamet, directed by Sidney Lumet. A down-on-his-luck alcoholic lawyer in Boston accepts a medical malpractice case. Five Oscar nominations, incl Best Picture.
Friday, Oct. 16- Hotel (1967)- drama, 124 min.
Rod Taylor, Catherine Spaak, Melvyn Douglas, Karl Malden, Michael Rennie. Based on the novel by Arthur Hailey, the story concerns a grand hotel in New Orleans which is about to be sold, and how it effects the staff and guests.
Friday, Oct. 23- Erin Brockovich (2000)- legal drama, 130 min. Rated R.
Julia Roberts (Oscar), Albert Finney, Aaron Eckhart, Peter Coyote. Directed by Steven Soderbergh. True story of Brockovich who initiated a legal case against Pacific Gas and Electric.
Friday, Oct. 30- Signs (2002)- thriller sci-fi, 106 min, Rated PG-13. Halloween Special.
Mel Gibson, Joaquin Phoenix, Cherry Jones, Rory Culkin, Abigail Breslin. A minister who's lost his way after his wife dies finds strange crop signs outside his farm. Written, produced and directed by M. Night Shyamalan. Themes of faith and fate in a creepy story.
