On August 9th, the Community Center hosting an Art Show and Quilt Unveiling. The Art Show was focused on local Fishers artists and everyone was amazed by the plethora of local talent. Some artists were already known to the community, but others were complete surprises. The panels were beautifully and very professionally hung by artist Jeff Carpenter, who selflessly and generously gave of his time and energy. Shelly Lamborn is also responsible for planning the effortless flow of the show. The opening night party also included an unveiling and beautiful dedication of the newly refurbished and framed Fishers Island Quilt, which is now hung in the downstairs hallway of the Community Center. The nine quilters were honored for their exquisite handiwork and Jo Sochi, the islander who underwrote and executed the entire project, was sincerely thanked. We had a big crowd for the evening and everyone appreciated the artistic beauty surrounding them. The show remained in place through the weekend. Next summer we look forward to collaborating with local artists, Lighthouse Works and Jeff Carpenter to create a Hound Lane Art Walk.
