The Executive Committee of the Community Center – with input from our Director, staff and our local medical professionals – has decided on the following at the Fishers Island Community Center in order to help protect against COVID-19 effective immediately and continuing through Easter, April 12th, 2020:
- The Community Center will be closed for large gatherings,
- The fitness center and bowling alley will be closed,
- Classic Movie Night on Thursdays is suspended until further notice,
- We are postponing our Community Dinner scheduled for March 18th; and
- Sip ‘N Paint on March 27th will also be postponed.
Anyone who has signed up for Community Dinner or Sip ‘N Paint will be issued refunds or can have their deposit applied to a rescheduled event.
Smaller regular meetings may be permitted on a case-by-case basis with the approval of the Executive Director of the Center.
Individuals wanting to use our internet may also be approved on a case-by-case basis, although we encourage anyone who can work from home to do so. Our internet does work on our deck and, if it’s a lovely sunny mild day, this might be another way to use our internet while minimizing exposure.
Please be assured we have increased our cleaning measures and we have hand sanitizer and spray sanitizer throughout the building.
While some might view these measures as aggressive, we have to be mindful that we are a gathering place for our Fishers residents and visitors and don’t want to put anyone at risk unnecessarily. Many seasonal residents will likely be coming to Fishers Island sooner than expected and we hope these measures will help to keep us all safe.
We thank everyone for their understanding and support during this time and we will keep you posted as the situation evolves. Should you have any questions regarding this, please to not hesitate to reach out to Jeanie Cook at the Community Center.
