The Fishers Island School-Community Center Youth Ballet Program
In partnership with the Fishers Island School, the Community Center is proud to be able to welcome students to a youth ballet program during the 2016-2017 school year.
The classes will introduce ballet technique at an age-appropriate level. Lower classes focus on developing body strength, gross motor skills, rhythm, musicality, and pattern execution through barre work and basic group movements on the floor. Upper classes build upon basic technique, improve strength and flexibility, and work on group synchronization through barre work, floor work, and routines. French ballet terms will be used and taught in the class.
Pre-Ballet: grades PreK-K, 3:30-4:15 pm Wednesdays (limit 10 per class)
Ballet I: grades 3-6, 3:30-4:30 pm Tuesdays (limit 8 per class)
Please note that the age guidelines are not strict, and that the instructor may, at her discretion, move students into a level more appropriate for their skill and developmental levels.
Ana Rose Webster holds a dual degree in elementary education and dance instruction. Miss Webster has trained for over 15 years in ballet, jazz, tap, and modern dance, and is excited to bring after-school dance instruction to Fishers Island.
Participants should wear comfortable clothing that allows free movement. Leotards, tights, and ballet shoes are not required. For girls, leggings and a t-shirt or tunic are appropriate; for boys, gym shorts and tee-shirts are appropriate. Hair should be pulled back from the face and secured. Participants should be prepared to dance in socks or bare feet.
The program will cost $10/student/class (or $5/sibling/class). Because it is difficult to choreograph and practice dances when students are missing, we recommend that families commit to at least one month of class at a time. Families can pay online via PayPal, or at the Community Center by check, credit card, or cash. Should a student miss one class during that time, the fee will roll over. Additional missed classes will be taken on a case-by-case basis.
Should the class be cancelled, a make-up class will be scheduled.
Parents will be required to sign a waiver before children can participate. Because students will be leaving school grounds with Miss Webster, please return the waiver and registration form to the main office at the school.
Students must be picked up promptly at the end of the class so that Miss Webster and magnet students can get to the 4:45 ferry.
