FICC Winter News Update

Welcoming the new Program Director as the Island Café reopens, new Fitness Room equipment arrives, and air conditioning is installed!

Jeanie K. Cook:
The FICC Board’s Executive Committee is pleased to inform you that Jeanie Kelly Cook had agreed to join the Community Center as Director of Programs and Administration. With experience in membership coordination with the Eastern Connecticut Chamber of Commerce and more recently as a specialist at a high-end rehabilitation and wellness Center in Connecticut, Jeanie is a talented, high energy person who I know will bring life to the Community Center. One of Jeanie’s passions is gardening and as the founder of Coastal Greenery in Madison, she has been doing consulting, design and installations of residential gardens since 1992 she plans to add gardening and floral design classes into the mix at the Community Center this year. As a member of the Harvey family whose grandparents first began enjoying Fishers in the 1920s and the spouse of Fishers Island Ferry District Manager Geb Cook, Jeanie is well known to all of us.

Jeanie’s first day on the job will be Wednesday, January 17th. While Jeanie assumes responsibility for our programs and administration, Sarah Porter will continue to oversee membership and facilities management.

The Island Café:
We are also pleased to let you know that thanks to the efforts of Chef Ed Neiman at the Fishers Island Club, Pequot Chef John Haight will begin dinner service at the Community Center’s Island Café Wednesday, January 24th. Initially, the Café will be open two nights a week offering a simple and delicious buffet dinner – January 24 and 26, and beginning February 1, every Thursday and Saturday evenings. Come join in and feel free to BYOB. The menu will be posted weekly.

The Fitness Center & Air Conditioning:
On February 5th the old equipment in the Fitness Center will be removed and a few days later replaced by entirely new equipment. During the transition, the carpeting will be cleaned and the room freshened up for the installation of the new equipment.

Additionally, new air-conditioning systems are being installed throughout the Community Center building which will be operational before the next heatwave arrives this summer.

We are pleased with all the good things happening at the Community Center and hope you will welcome Jeanie Cook to our team when you are next at the FICC. And while you’re there, visit the Island Café to support John and Ed’s efforts to bring off-season dining back to Fishers Island. Sarah can help with your membership renewal, Jasmine is running the Bowling Alley, and Stacey McCarthy will return soon to her massage spa.

With thanks and all best wishes for the New Year,

Luke Fowler, FICC Board President
